Pre-Natal Massage

Pregnancy massage is safe and beneficial at all stages of pregnancy and labor. Expectant mothers are often very appreciative of a skilled hand helping relieve normal joint and muscle pain. During pregnancy the body goes through a variety of musculoskeletal and hormonal changes that although normal, can be uncomfortable. White H.A.R.T. therapists that work with our expectant mothers are all certified in advanced pre-natal massage. We thoroughly understand the specialized needs of the pregnant woman, expectant parents, and new families. Knowing how the body’s needs change during the different stages of pregnancy, birth, and post-partum periods, allows us to create a healthy environment for your child to develop. Factoring in these changes, and each clients individual needs, is part of our unique approach to pre-natal massage.

In one study women who received 10 prenatal massages experienced lower levels of cortisol resulting in less anxiety, pain, and reported better sleep and improved mood. These same women had fewer complications during birth, including premature births.

Most women seek massage during pregnancy due to aches and pains in the back, neck, pelvis, and other joints. Pain relief is the most immediate response to massage, although there are many long-term benefits such as:

  • Lower pain levels
  • Decreased edema (swelling)
  • Enhanced blood flow to baby
  • Stronger immune system in child
  • Decreased stress levels
  • Increased skin elasticity

Pre/Peri-Natal Massage

Massage given prior to, or at any point during the pregnancy and birth is considered Pre/Peri-Natal. The discomfort of hormonal and physical changes eases through gentle and prolonged pressure. Peri-natal massage aids in preparation for the act of giving birth. Increasing elasticity and reflex in the muscle helps ease the birthing process and results in a more pleasant birth experience.

Labor Assistance

For established clients, our therapists can take part in your birthing experience. Well placed massage techniques help ease labor pains, and often during labor, the focus is shifted to the baby’s needs and the physical act of giving birth. Having a trusted partner to focus on your needs reduces stress levels, which in turn leads to lower fetal distress, higher pain tolerance, and shortened labors. Our staff can be present during home or hospital deliveries at the client’s request.

Post-Partum Massage

After carrying a baby for nine months the body must re-adjust to its normal state. Post-partum massage can help the body return to its proper alignment. Massage also helps with issues common to new parents such as neck and shoulder pain from carrying their new infant.
